Hello Sp’akw’us 50 Participant,

We have been busy working away on the finer details of the Sp’akw’us 50 presented by Nesters Market Squamish set to launch June 17, 2017. We hope that your riding has been able to resume now that Winter has slowly let go of its grasp. This May long weekend’s forecast looks to be a great one for hitting the trails. Here are a few updates as we get closer to the event.

Race Bible

Look for the Race Bible to be sent out about a week before the event. This document will cover several topics such as how to get to the venue, where to stay or eat in Squamish, as well as where you can park. Further details will itemize package pick-up, start/finish/ procedures, bike washing stations, bike check, food and beverage area, 0 cup feed stations, neutral feed station and awards.

The course marking has begun yesterday with the hopes of having this completed by the May Long Weekend. At least ¾ of the course will be marked by Saturday Morning so please consult with your map while pre-riding this Saturday. If you are participating in the Nimby50 up in Pemberton on Saturday then you may already have your calendar full that day.

Sp’akw’us 50 & 7Mesh Inc Partnership Project

The organizing committee of the Sp’akw’us 50 Mountain Bike race is proud to announce our partnership with 7MESH Cycling Apparel. 7MESH, based in Squamish, BC,  is committed to providing premium cycling apparel for those who place a premium on their outdoor pursuits. Sp’akw’us 50 and 7MESH have partnered to Co-Brand, for a limited time and a limited supply, their own QUANTUM short sleeve jersey with the Sp’akw’us 50 logo. This is the start of Squamish’s newest Cycling Event and the start of a partnership grown out of a passion for Mountain Biking and the Squamish trails.

“Choosing the right apparel for the day’s adventure is the best way to connect with nature yet not succumb to nature’s elements. The bandwidth for temperature ranges of the 7MESH Quantum jersey makes this a jersey to cover a large portion of your riding season”

– Dwayne Kress, Sp’akw’us 50 Race Organizer

Orders placed through the 7MESH website before June 4th, 2017 can be picked up at the event during package pick-up on the night before and on the day of the event, June 16th & June 17th respectively.

Perfect patterning combines with the soft, airy and breathable textile to make this an instant classic. Mechanical stretch eliminates Lycra to minimize moisture pickup, keeping you light and comfortable. Asymmetric stretch makes the jersey super welcoming with horizontal stretch but vertically stable to hold your pocket contents secure.

This jersey is a celebration of your commitment to mountain biking and of our commitment to providing quality events that leave lasting legacies. Ordering details will be provided shortly.

Sp’akw’us 50 wants to keep the Spirit of the Test of Metal alive and bringing back the Primes is one way to further extend the community’s appreciation for the racers and the excitement they provide through participating in this event. Typically these primes are won by the racing field’s top talent and this does remove a lot of the field from contesting for this prize. We are going to add more winners to the mix by having our supporting businesses present $100 each to the fastest Male & Female to a certain point of the course, as well as presenting $300 to the Squamish Elementary School Breakfast Program in the name of the supporting business and winning racers. Total count of Primes and their locations are currently being worked out so keep an eye out for that announcement within the Race Bible.

Lil Sp’akw’us Kids Race

As Sp’akw’us 50 picks up where the Test of Metal left off, it is very important that we also recognize the future participants of the Sp’akw’us 50 with their very own event, presented by Spawn Bicycles. Little wheels and big smiles all around makes for a fun afternoon of meeting new riding buddies and sharing the days adventure over a beverage and cookie provided by Nesters Market Squamish.
As a family friendly event to get kids stoked on mountain biking, it is important that we get as much help from families to keep things running smoothly. Anyone available to help out and volunteer on the day are encouraged to contact our volunteer coordinator by filling out our volunteer form at http://spakwus50.com/volunteers/

To make things easy, there will be three categories to choose from when lining up your little racer:

– Little Wheels Run bikes
– Wheeeeedium Wheels from 16″-18″
– Big Wheels from 20″-24″

Participants must have a helmet and their own bike to ride in order to race. Registation and further details to announced shortly.

That’s all for updates today, have a great weekend and we will see you soon,

Dwayne Kress
