It’s all about the challenge, the community and the trails.

It’s that time of year again, we’re dusting off our registration portal, and flipping ahead 5-months on our calendars to begin preparation to bring you another exciting year of mountain bike racing in Squamish, BC, the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada.

Registration for the event will be open as of today, January 16, 2019 at 6:00 pm PST.

We are once again bringing to you the 3-race Sp’akw’us Events including the Sp’akw’us 50, the Sp’akw’us 35km and the Sp’akw’us Challenge, a combination of the two events to create a 2-Day Mountain Bike Stage Race.

We continue to enhance all 3 events, however, we are proud to continue to create value for riders participating in the Sp’akw’us Challenge.  We feel that this is a natural progression for this mountain bike event, drawing people from around the world to come and ride the Squamish Trail Network.  You guessed it, our out-of-town visitors wanted more, and what better way to offer it than adding a second day of racing, over a course that covers slightly less terrain, with a slightly lower technical component. The Sp’akw’us Challenge will consist of the Sp’akw’us 50 (Saturday) and the Sp’akw’us 35 (Sunday).

Perfection is hard to beat, so the Sp’akw’us 50 won’t see much in the way of changes.  However, expect to see more focus in 2019 on the Sp’akw’us Challenge and the Sp’akw’us 35.  We know that our event falls on Fathers’ Day weekend and we aim to focus on bringing a touch of family to our 2019 event.  Stay tuned for exciting updates as to what this includes.

As always, our event will include professionally marked courses, Squamish-level competition, professional timing, aid stations, awesome courses, t-shirts, racer swag, awards and racer meals/beverages are all part of the experience.

The 2 Day Challenge

There will be 300 entries available to those choosing the Sp’akw’us Challenge 2-Day Stage Race Saturday June 15th and Sunday June 16th, 2019.

The 2-day MTB Stage Race is a format popular for those riders who want an extra challenge that is over and above what the 50km already is. Riders will find this event to be a valuable tune-up event for those summer multi-stage MTB events around the world.

The 50 km

There will be 600 race entries available to those choosing to race only the Sp’akw’us 50 on Saturday June 15th, 2019.

This event is one that will have people coming back for more. Riders can expect a challenging day on the trails through some of Squamish’s best singletrack trails.

The 35 km

There will be 300 entries available to those choosing to race only the Sp’akw’us 35 on Sunday June 16th, 2019.

Whether this is your first mountain bike race or if you are not able to get the time required to train for the 50km event, you will find a lot on offer within this 35km event that will focus on fun flowy trails.

Capital Projects

There are already several small trail projects currently underway to enhance the Squamish Trail Network under this Capital Projects Initiative.

Sp’akw’us means Bald Eagle in the Squamish Nation language, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and symbolizes the majestic beauty unique to Squamish.  The rich history of mountain bike racing in Squamish will continue to be a foundation of the region, as are the bald eagles that grace our skies, trees and rivers.
